This is what it's all about - activities that offer challenge, excitement and adventure and the knowledge you pick up along the way through structured lectures and first-hand experience.

Don't worry about being thrown in at the deep end. You’ll join your local squadron as a trial, when you get to know the other cadets and start basic training. You then get gradually introduced to activities as you progress, so you can make the most of every opportunity that comes your way.

Rock Climbing

Cadets from 785 recently got to experience rock climbing.

Using the outdoor climbing wall based at Croft Farm cadets were introduced to the basics of rock climbing by the qualified instructors before having a go themselves.

Charity Support

Cadets from 785 and a couple of other squadrons from the sector assisted the Air Ambulance fundraising at a Harley Davidson showroom open day.

Many positive comments were made about the cadets' turnout and attitude which has resulted in the Air Ambulance once again requesting our assistance with future events.

Visit to Vulcan XM655

The Squadron have visited the Vulcan XM655 at Wellsbourne Airfield. The team of volunteers there gave the cadets full access and demonstrations of the systems and aircraft including a tour of the cockpit by the pilot himself. After that we were treated to a tour of the wartime museum and the active air traffic control tower. A very enjoyable day was had by all.

Exercise Red Crevice

Cadets and staff have the opportunity each year to attend Exercise Red Crevice at DTE Caerwent, usually around May time. We're already looking forward to this year's trip!

Red Crevice is a intense fieldcraft training weekend that prepares cadets for two more fieldcraft camps run later in the year by 2442 squadron.

The weekend usually ends with very tired but happy cadets who have learned a lot in just two days.

They are then able to attend the follow up, Exercise Summerbell, later in the year.

Armed Forces Day Parade

Once again 785 Squadron took part in Tewkesbury Armed Forces Day parade.

Well done to all who took part, you looked very smart!

Visit to Gloucester North Fire Station
Visit to Gloucester South Fire Station

In 2017 cadets had a memorable and very enjoyable visit to Gloucester North Fire Station. The crews there specialise in animal and heavy rescue incidents and set up an exercise to show us how they would rescue a horse safely.  The firefighters also demonstrated the breathing apparatus and cadets got to try it for themselves!

We also had the opportunity to visit Gloucester South Fire Station last year where crews specialise in water rescue. The cadets were taught water safety where they learned about dangers of rivers and open water and were able to try on some of the water rescue kit. The highlight of the night was probably being allowed to use the high pressure water jets!

Thank you to crews at both stations!

Visit to Bamfurlong Police Station

In June 2017 we were really fortunate to get an invite to Bamfurlong police station. We had a fantastic time there learning about the traffic, police bikes, dogs and firearms units.  Thank you to all staff there for making this such an interesting and enjoyable visit and an even bigger thank you to Shadow the police dog for allowing us to leave!

Gliding at Cotswold Gliding Club

Four of our cadets experienced gliding with Cotswold Gliding Club last summer. The weather was perfect and each of them had around a 15 minute flight.  It was a fantastic evening and they thoroughly recommend it!

Christmas Party

In the Air Cadets 75th year, we held a 1940's inspired Christmas party! Most cadets arrived dressed for the era and food comprised of fish and chips (in newspaper!), jam tarts and bread pudding, some of which was received more enthusiastically than others!

C-130 Flight

Two of our cadets and staff recently had the fantastic opportunity of flying in a C-130 Hercules from RAF Brize Norton to Abingdon Airshow. Special thanks go to 47 Squadron for the very special day which included admission to the airshow to look around the different stalls and air displays and ended with a return flight back to RAF Brize Norton.

Bag Pack at Morrisons

Cadets and staff have raised money for the squadron by unloading trolleys and packing bags at Morrisons in Tewkesbury. Our thanks go to the managers and staff at our local store for their help and ongoing support of 785 and of course the lovely customers who donated so generously over the weekend.

Heart Start Training

In May 2018, three more cadets from 785 Sqn were presented their Heart Start certificates and badges.  Heart Start is a course developed by the British Heart Foundation to teach basic first aid, including CPR.

Exercise Crevice 2018

Cadets from 785 Sqn recently took part in Exercise Crevice alongside other cadets from Bristol & Gloucestershire Wing.  The award of best cadet was presented to our very own Cdt Simpson.

Crevice is the Wings entry level fieldcraft exercise where cadets learn various skills from navigation to field manoeuvres and sample the delights of British Forces rations!
